Profile Nicky Meer

Senior Lecturer in Academic Development

I am currently an Academic Developer within AQD and have been doing this role for the past two years. Prior to this I was a senior lecturer within our Business School but have been at the UoC (and legacy institution St Martin’s College) for 17 years.

My background is in Human Resource Management and Development and I was a practicing HR Manager and trainer before entering Higher Education as a mature student. In addition to my main role I am also an ACAS trained and accredited mediator, an active member and case worker for the UCU and a full Academic member of the CIPD in addition to my Higher Education Senior Fellow status (SFHEA).

Roles & responsibilities

My role involves all aspects of developing our academic provision. This could be through supporting new colleagues through our PGCert, aiding experienced colleagues gain the HEA accreditation they deserve, facilitate team discussions and development in areas such as assessment, validation, academic processes and procedures etc. and running a variety of workshops and seminars.

Interests

I am currently undertaking a PhD at Lancaster University and my research interests include: Students as Partners, Creative Assessment and Education for Social Justice.
